What Is Oilite Bronze Bushings?

SAE 841—also called Oilite bushing, this bushing starts as powdered metal and is then sintered and impregnated with roughly 19% SAE 30 oil. The oil reduces wear as well as provides lubricant.

Powdered metal bearings (SAE 841) are used in applications that call for completely wear-resistant components. Self-lubricating oilite bronze bushings are made by blending powders, shaping the mixture into the required sizes, and heating it in the oven to bond the particles. The next step in the process is to size the bronze bushing; this involves placing the material back into the dye and pressing it into the finished shape. The next step in the process is to oil-impregnated the metal bronze bushing for lubrication or corrosive resistance. This creates a fantastic cost-efficient bearing. Operation temperatures range from 10* F to 220*F. Shipped in a plastic bag to preserve the oil. We offer many sizes, in inch dimensions sleeved and sleeved with flanges. Metric bronze bushings are also available upon request.

Oilite Bushings Technology

  1. Milling
Pulverizing is the process of making raw materials into powder. Commonly used pulverizing methods include the oxide reduction method and the mechanical method.
  2. Mixing
Mixing is the process of mixing various required powders in a certain proportion and homogenizing them to make green powder. There are three types of dry, semi-dry and wet, which are used for different requirements.
  3. Forming
Forming is a process in which the mixed material is evenly mixed, loaded into a die and pressed into a parison with a certain shape, size and density. The molding method is basically divided into pressure molding and pressureless molding. The most widely used compression molding is compression molding.
  4. Sintering
Sintering is a critical step in powder metallurgy process. The formed compact is sintered to obtain the desired final physical and mechanical properties. Sintering is further divided into unit-system sintering and multi-system sintering. In addition to ordinary sintering, there are special sintering processes such as loose sintering, infusion method, and hot pressing method.
  5. Post-processing
After sintering, various methods can be adopted according to different product requirements. Such as finishing, oil immersion, machining, heat treatment and electroplating. In addition, in recent years, some new processes such as rolling and forging have also been applied to the processing of powder metallurgy materials after sintering, and achieved ideal results.

Types of Lubricants for Oilite Bronze Bushings
When it comes to lubricating Oilite bronze bushings, various lubricant options are available. These include:

1. Oil-Based Lubricants
Oil-based lubricants, such as mineral oils or synthetic oils, are commonly used for Oilite bronze bushings. They provide excellent lubrication properties, reducing friction and wear. Additionally, oil-based lubricants offer good temperature resistance and corrosion protection.

2. Solid Lubricants
Solid lubricants, such as graphite or molybdenum disulfide, can also be used in certain applications. These lubricants create a low-friction barrier between the shaft and the bushing, reducing wear and improving performance, especially under high loads or extreme conditions.

3. Grease Lubrication
Grease is another effective lubrication option for Oilite bronze bushings. It consists of oil mixed with a thickening agent, providing a semi-solid consistency. Grease lubrication offers excellent adhesion properties and prolonged lubrication intervals, making it suitable for applications where regular re-lubrication may be challenging.

A casting bronze bushing is a type of bearing that is made by the process of casting. In this manufacturing method, bronze alloys are melted and poured into a mold to create the desired shape of the bushing. Once the molten bronze solidifies and cools, it forms a solid and durable bushing.

Casting bronze bushings typically have a dense and homogeneous structure without any inherent porosity. This solid construction provides strength and stability to the bushing, making it suitable for applications that involve heavy loads, high speeds, and harsh operating conditions.

One of the advantages of casting bronze bushings is their versatility in terms of size, shape, and design. The casting process allows for the production of bushings in various dimensions and intricate geometries to meet specific application requirements.

The Difference Between Oilite Bronze Bushing And Casting Bronze Bushing

Oilite bronze bushings and casting bronze bushings are two different types of bearings used in various applications. Here are the main differences between them:

Manufacturing Process:

  • Oilite Bronze Bushing: Oilite bushings are manufactured through a sintering process. Bronze powder is mixed with lubricating oil and compressed into a desired shape. The resulting porous structure allows the lubricating oil to be impregnated into the material.
  • Casting Bronze Bushing: Casting bronze bushings are produced by melting bronze alloys and pouring the molten metal into a mold to obtain the desired shape. The molten metal solidifies and cools to form the finished bushing.

Lubrication:

  • Oilite Bronze Bushing: Oilite bushings are self-lubricating due to the presence of lubricating oil impregnated into the material during the manufacturing process. This allows for continuous lubrication between the bushing and the shaft, reducing friction and wear.
  • Casting Bronze Bushing: Casting bronze bushings require external lubrication, such as grease or oil, to minimize friction and provide adequate lubrication between the bushing and the shaft.

Porosity:

  • Oilite Bronze Bushing: Oilite bushings have a porous structure that allows the lubricating oil to be retained within the material. This porosity helps to distribute the lubricant evenly and provides a reservoir of oil for continuous lubrication.
  • Casting Bronze Bushing: Casting bronze bushings are typically solid without any inherent porosity. Lubrication is achieved through external means, as mentioned earlier.

Application:

  • Oilite Bronze Bushing: Oilite bushings are commonly used in low-speed, high-load applications, where continuous lubrication and minimal maintenance are desired. They are often found in automotive engines, industrial machinery, and appliances.
  • Casting Bronze Bushing: Casting bronze bushings are suitable for a wide range of applications, including high-speed and heavy-duty applications. They are commonly used in pumps, valves, hydraulic cylinders, and other machinery where external lubrication is feasible.

Overall, the main difference between oilite bronze bushings and casting bronze bushings lies in their manufacturing process, lubrication properties, and application suitability. Oilite bushings offer self-lubrication and are ideal for low-speed, high-load applications while casting bronze bushings require external lubrication and are suitable for a broader range of applications.

Oilite bushings materials used in the aerospace industry, a class of special functional materials, such as friction materials, wear reduction materials, sealing materials, filter materials, etc., mainly used in aircraft and engine auxiliary, instrumentation and on-board equipment. Another type of high-temperature and high-strength structural materials, mainly used in the aircraft engine main engine on the important structural parts.

Advantage | China Oilite Bushing Sintered

Oilite bronze bushing is a process technology that uses metal powders (or mixtures of metal powders and non-metal powders) as raw materials, which are shaped and sintered to manufacture metal materials, composite materials and various types of products.

Advantages of oilite bushing

1. The oilite bushing manufacturing process is less.
2. The utilization rate of material can be more than 95% when manufacturing gears by powder metallurgy.
3. The repeatability of oilite bronze bushing is very good. Because oilite bushings are pressed into shape with a mold, under normal conditions of use, a pair of molds can be pressed into tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of bronze bushing.
4. Powder metallurgy method can be integrated manufacturing of several parts.
5. The material density of oilite bushing is controllable.
6. In oilite bushing production, the roughness of the working surface of the press die is very good to facilitate the release of the press billet from the press die after forming.
