What Is A Copper Washer?
Copper Self-lubricating Bronze Graphite Thrust Washers are flat washers that are located between a rotating surface and a stationary component. They support the axial load or side-to-side motion on a shaft and prevent movement along that shaft. The copper washer provides a surface on which a bearing is supported. Copper thrust washer bearing graphite can be a plate at the end of a shaft, or a device against which a collar on the shaft presses. Banded thrust washer bearings and washers are reinforced by a band encircling the outer edge. They are made to be used in high-wear applications.
What Is A Flat Washer?
When placed between a nut and a bolt or screw, they incorporate spacing and distribute the load, and they help prevent wear and distortion of the mounting surface over time. The thin plate shape increases the surface area to prevent loosening and pulling out of fasteners also relieves surface friction and acts as a spacer when additional clearance is required between objects. Their use will allow for smoother loosening and tightening of components, thus making maintenance easier.
Thrust Washer Vs Flat Washer
A flat washer is generally used to increase the contact area between parts, protect them from damage by increasing the contact area; to reduce the pressure between the nut and the equipment. Commonly used flat washer materials are iron, carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, plastic, etc.
Thrust washers are used to support axial loads or lateral movements on a shaft and to prevent movement along that shaft. Its purpose is to prevent the thrust of a rotating object from causing wear to a stationary object. Thrust washers can be made of plastic, brass, bronze, stainless steel, graphite, or various other materials.
Copper Washer Oilless Material
Thrust washer bearing material is determined by the application. The choice of material is determined by several factors such as speed, load, and temperature. Oilless Thrust washer bearing may be produced from plastic, brass, bronze, stainless steel, graphite, or various other materials.
There are two common copper washers at VIIPLUS
1. Copper Washer With Graphite
Developed for high load, low-speed applications and are made of rotational cast high-strength bronze using a specially formed graphite plug as a lubricant.
Available in metric and imperial sizes. Our in-house machining service can produce non-standard sizes to suit specific customer requirements.
2. Cast Bronze Thrust Washer
Bronze Thrust washers support the axial load on a shaft. They are designed to prevent movement along the axis of a shaft. Thrust washers can be grooved to provide additional lubrication distribution. For high heat applications, these grooves can be filled with graphite to provide self-lubricating properties to the washer.
Where is Copper Washer Graphite Used?
Precision-engineered copper thrust washer bearings are used in high-wear applications such as transmissions, power take-offs, pumps, axle assemblies, motors, and winches. Plain washer kits contain thrust washers of varying thicknesses for correct installation during component assembly.
Standard copper washers are made for products such as automotive engines. They are used in high-wear applications such as axle assemblies, motors, transmissions, pumps, power take-offs, and winches. Just about any application that needs a wear surface.
Bronze thrust bearings are commonly used in a variety of applications, including automotive engines, industrial machinery, and marine propulsion systems, due to their durability, reliability, and resistance to corrosion.
Bronze Thrust Bearing: Durable and Reliable Options
Wear-resistant Copper Thrust Washer Bearing
The role of the copper washer itself, especially in all major projects and machinery manufacturing, the requirements for bronze thrust washer bearings are very demanding. Under the extremely strong vibration, and not just loose!

Why A Copper Thrust Washer Bearing Is Important
Commonly used in rotating assemblies, Oilless thrust washer bearing support axial loads and are instrumental in keeping components aligned along a shaft. The flat surface of the copper washer ensures that loads are evenly distributed across the part and provide more lubricity than machine bushings.
- Designed for high-wear applications
- Vacuum impregnated with oil for increased durability and sealing
- Provide a smooth durable surface suitable for ball and needle bearings
- Offered in a wide range of sizes to accommodate a variety of applications
How To Choose The Correct Oilless Copper Thrust Washer Bearing
Define the application: what is the design intended to do? This includes shaft dimensions or space dimensions for the bronze thrust bearing.
Force or load against the thrust washer bearing: What is the total pressure or load pressing on the copper washer?
Oilless copper washer preload: Graphite thrust washer Bearing preload is a predetermined load applied to a bearing and is separate from application loads. Preload is a design consideration to increase rigidity, decrease vibration, and sliding friction. When evaluating the total load, preload needs to be considered and added to the application load.
RPM of the application?
Hours of operation or cycle time?
Operating environment, does the operating environment require special consideration?

Copper Washers as common mechanical parts, commonly used in machinery and equipment, cars, trains, and construction structures, according to the different requirements to choose the right type of oilless thrust washers.
